Hike#14: Valley Falls Via Rocky and Rhododendron Trail

IMG_2618.jpeg

Hike #14 took me to Valley Falls State Park, near Grafton, West Virginia. This was my first time visiting this park and my first impression was wow, this place is aptly named. The most stunning waterfalls span the width of the Tygart River, with several vantage points to take them in only a few hundred yards from the parking area.

This is a really nice park for anyone in the Morgantown/Fairmont area that wants to take a day trip and get some miles in!

Signage throughout the trail networks indicate that this park is particularly popular among mountain bikers and skiers. I saw dozens of groups offloading their gear and ran into several on the trail. It is definitely worth noting that mountain bikers will have a much harder time stopping than someone that is hiking, so they should be given the right of way. The same should be said for skiers!

There were some steep sections along this trail, but overall I would classify it as easy. Bring yourself some snacks, and after your hike find a spot by the falls and enjoy the park!

Trailhead directions can be found on All Trails or using the coordinates above!
